BADBADNOTGOOD released their fifth solo studio album, Talk Memory, in October via XL Recordings and Innovative Leisure. The record comprised eight tracks on streaming, but its physical edition also included a slow, moody cut titled "Open Channels." The Toronto-based psychedelic jazz trio have now shared that song as a digital single, along with a short film directed by Sylvain Chaussée.
At just over four-and-a-half minutes, "Open Channels" is far from the longest track on Talk Memory, but it's got an epic quality that expands its emotional power well past its length. Restrained drum fills from Alexander Sowinski and a creeping bass line from Chester Hansen set the stage for Leland Whitty's voluminous sax playing, which elevates the song to a higher plane.
