What's that sound? Grills flicking on? The bass boosted? A candidate for song of the summer finally making its arrival? When it comes to tunes for soundtracking the scorching months ahead look no further than Davido and Victoria Monét, two artists who've got the season on lock. It's been seven years since the Nigerian Afropop prince Davido released "Fall" but it's still on heavy rotation in my neighborhood in Brooklyn where I hear it blasting at least once a week starting in June. And two summers ago, its only heavy competition was Monét's sultry "On My Mama." So it makes perfect sense now that the two pop heavyweights would team up together to deliver the season's next sizzling special: "Offa Me," a tropical banger that's goes down easier than whatever's getting mixed up at your local block party.
The song is off Davido's latest record 5ive, which came out on April 18, and has already garnered buzz among his fans, and it makes sense: Their team-up makes for an effortless, dance-worthy bop that you want to run back over and over. Today, the two stars release its music video which can be interpreted as a guide for what everyone should do while listening to this song: writhing on the floor and throwing it back at a house party.
"Working with Victoria was magic," Davido said of their collaboration in a press release. "You can feel the chemistry, the groove, the soul - it’s fun, it’s vibrant, I know everyone will love it as much as we do."
The rest of Davido's 5ive is just as star-studded with a stacked list of features from Omah Lay, Becky G, Odumodublvck, Musa Keys, Shenseea, and more. It's worth putting next in the queue once you've fully rinsed out "Offa Me."
