Danny Brown drops details of new album Quaranta

Danny Brown has shared the release date, cover art, tracklist, and lead single of his long-teased sixth studio album, Quaranta. The new track, “Tantor,” is a characteristically bombastic Danny cut. “This that Black Lives Matter, still sniff cocaine / Paid for a therapist, but I still ain’t change,” he repeats near the song’s tail end, riding an Alchemist beat that samples what sounds like an ’80s cartoon theme song.

“Tantor” comes with a visual treatment, courtesy of *UNCANNY, that splices animated clips into scenes of Brown walking around Los Angeles in a cyborg suit, with overlaid subliminal text messages flashing across the screen all the while.

Dubbed the “spiritual bookend” to Danny Brown’s breakout album, XXX — dropped in 2011 to celebrate his 30th birthday — Quaranta (which means 40 in Italian) is due out November 17 via Warp Records. The project, Brown’s first solo LP since 2019’s uknowhatimsayin¿, includes production from SKYWLKR, Quelle Chris, and Paul White (as well as The Alchemist), and three vocal features — from Bruiser Wolf, Kassa Overall, and MIKE — across 11 tracks.

In the past four years, Brown has moved from his native Detroit to Austin, Texas, where he’s currently living sober, according to the same press release. He’s also started a successful podcast (The Danny Brown Show) and dropped a joint album with JPEGMAFIA (Scaring The Hoes), as well as one-off collaborations with Kenny Beats, Skepta, Baauer, BROCKHAMPTON, Mount Kimbie, 645AR, and Korn, among others.
