Gunna has shared the music video for “rodeo dr,” a mid-album cut from his latest LP, a Gift & a Curse. The Spike Jordan production is the record’s fifth official visual treatment, following clips for “bread & butter,” “back to the moon,” “i was just thinking,” “alright,” and, most recently, the project’s standout track, “fukumean.”
In the new video, the Atlanta rapper rides around in the white Ford Bronco referenced in the song’s lyrics — “thinking I should take the Bronco (yeah) / O. J., gotta go get it tomorrow” — as admiring fans swarm to show love at every turn.
Dropped in June, a Gift & a Curse was Gunna’s first record following his release from jail last December. Indicted along with Young Thug and 26 more members of their YSL crew, Gunna entered an Alford plea (a legal option that’s functionally identical to a guilty plea but allows the defendant to personally maintain his innocence) to one count of conspiracy to violate Georgia’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act. Allegations that he “snitched” on Thug and the rest of the group have plagued him ever since.
These insidious rumors aren’t directly referenced on “rodeo dr” or in its video — as they are elsewhere on the album — but the clip does show a group of haters watching news coverage of Gunna’s journey from a dirty living room. “Man, you still fuck with that n***a?,” one of them asks incredulously at the start of the short. By the end of the song, he’s changed his mind. After the song fades out, the camera cuts to a prison cell, where two inmates watch a social media snippet documenting Gunna’s post-incarceration success; one of the men, an Atlanta native, swells with pride. Watch it all unfold above.
