As of yesterday (June 20), podcaster and former rapper Taxstone (real name Daryl Campbell) has been sentenced to 35 years in prison for his involvement in the 2016 Irving Plaza shooting, Billboard reports.
He was indicted on a weapons charge in early 2017 before being indicted for murder later that year. He was convicted of first-degree manslaughter this past March.
Campbell was said to have been in a longtime feud with rapper Troy Ave, who was also shot, when the incident occurred. Troy Ave’s bodyguard, Ronald “Banga” McPhatter, was fatally shot that night.
“Daryl Campbell used a firearm to target his rival, which led to loss of a life and serious injuries to innocent bystanders,” Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg said in a statement. “Gun violence cannot be used as a way to address conflict. The toll of guns continues to be staggeringly high and it is horrific that a night out at a concert ended tragically.”
Campbell’s lawyer, Kenneth Montgomery, told Billboard “justice wasn’t served” when reached for comment.
