Buffalo, New York-born singer-songwriter Julie Byrne has shared the opener and title track of The Greater Wings, her third studio LP and her first project since 2017’s Not Even Happiness. The album is due out July 7 via Ghostly International.

The new track follows last month’s lead single, “Summer Glass.” It’s a folkier, slower burn than its predecessor, all acoustic guitar and vocals until close to its halfway point, when gentle strings start to surround Byrne’s gorgeous, gently trembling voice. An ode to the intangible, it features some of her most expansive writing yet. “We hold the pact / Forever Underground / Name my grief to let it sing / To carry you up on the Greater Wings,” she sings on the hook as the instrumental swells behind her.

Along with today’s release, Byrne has announced upcoming tour dates in the U.S., U.K., and Ireland. After three July stops in England and an August festival set in Wales, she’ll return stateside for an 11-date September run. She’ll then take the next six weeks off before going back across the Atlantic for another brief string of shows in Great Britain and Ireland.
