Takeoff, the Atlanta rapper best known as one third of Migos, was fatally shot during the early hours of Tuesday morning. Early reports revealed that the 28-year-old was killed outside 810 Billiards & Bowling in Houston, Texas. His fellow Migos member Quavo was also in attendance but was not harmed during the shooting.

Last month, Takeoff and Quavo released the joint album Only Built For Infinity Links, their first project as a duo after forming Migos in 2008 alongside fellow family member Offset. Together Migos earned a No.1 hit in 2016 with "Bad and Boujee" and were Grammy-nominated for 2017 album Culture. Their triplet-heavy bars, dubbed the "Migos-flow," helped shape the sound of modern hip-hop.

Tributes to Takeoff have flooded social media in the hours after his death was confirmed. Fellow Atlanta rapper Gucci Mane, who collaborated with Migos on multiple projects, wrote simply "This broke my heart." Producer A-Trak, meanwhile, echoed the feelings of many fans by stating: "That man never bothered anyone. And he was a damn good rapper."
