Ghanaian afrofusionist Black Sherif has shared a new visual treatment for “45” — a track from his debut album, The Villain I Never Was, released on October 6 via Blacko Management with global support from EMPIRE. The video comes courtesy of “Boy Director” TG Omori, a leading force in the visual landscape of contemporary African pop.

“45” is an illustrative example of the Sherif expertly blends Afrobeats and Ghanaian drill, creating something a sound slightly more akin to western hip-hop than that of his Nigerian counterparts.

In Omori’s clip, Sherif plays the record’s titular outlaw, with scenes of lavish partying and paranoid, late-night reflection sprinkled into the video’s main plot line: a frantic police chase. At its end, he finds himself cornered by two cop cars on a deserted, sandy strip outside the city, at which point he sets himself and his car on fire and walks away from the wreckage, fully ablaze but seemingly unscathed. Watch it above.
