The nominations for the 17th annual BET Hip Hop Awards are in, with Drake and Kanye West leading the pack at 14 and 10 a piece, respectively. This year’s ceremony will be taped on Friday, September 30 at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center in Atlanta with Fat Joe hosting and premiere on television at 9 p.m. EDT the following Tuesday (October 4). Other artists nominated for multiple awards include Young Thug, Doja Cat, Latto, Lil Durk, and Tems, with three taps each.
Back in December, Drake and Ye ended a long-running beef — which came to a head last fall as Ye’s Donda and Drake’s Certified Lover Boy competed for sales and chart position — with a joint Larry Hoover benefit concert, held at the Los Angeles Coliseum and live-streamed on Amazon.
Each artist has released a studio album since then, with Ye’s Donda 2 dropping exclusively on Stem Player in February and Drake’s Honestly, Nevermind surprise released to digital streaming platforms in June. And both rappers appeared on DJ Khaled’s blockbuster August LP God Did, with Drake’s Lil Baby collab “Staying Alive” helping the Toronto emcee break The Beatles’ record for most top-five singles in Billboard chart history, and Ye’s “Use This Gospel” remix with Eminem giving the latter act his first number one hit on Billboard‘s Hot Christian Singles chart.
On Friday, in honor of Queen Elizabeth II’s passing, Ye announced that he’d be “releasing all” of his many “grudges” and “leaning into the light.”
