Rosalía's third studio album Motomami dropped last week and somehow managed to live up to its Grammy-winning predecessor, 2018's El Mal Querer. The new body of work, a serious album-of-the-year contender, got a bunch of short-cut music videos for TikTok over the weekend, and the whole performance is now streaming above on YouTube.
Watching the vertical-filmed performance in YouTube's rectangular box is a little disorienting – it reminds me of watching videos of fights screen-recorded from Twitter – but the quality of the visuals shine through. Set in a revolving, extremely opulent series of studio setups, the Motomami performance spares no expense whether it's costumes, camerawork, or choreography.
Snippets of tracks like "La Fama" (Rosalía stands in for The Weeknd on his hook), "Saoko," Chicken Teriyaki," "Hentai," and "La Combi Versace" all get performances, and provide a great and glamerous introduction to the album if you haven't pressed play on the whole thing yet.
