London rapper Dizzee Rascal has been convicted of assaulting his former partner Cassandra Jones, the mother of his two children. District Judge Polly Gledhill delivered the verdict at Wimbledon Magistrates' Court early Monday morning.
The conviction stems from an altercation — apparently over visitation priviledges and finances — that took place in June 2021, four months after the couple parted ways. According to Jones, the grime artist (real name Dylan Kwabena Mills) entered her South London apartment unannounced and became violent, pushing her to the ground and taking her phone when she tried to film the incident.
Mills took a camera from a Press Association photographer outside the courthouse after hearing the verdict and smashed it on the ground, BBC reports.
The news comes as Mills prepares to release his seventh album this year. His sentencing is scheduled for April 8.
The FADER has reached out to a representative of Mills' label, Universal Music Group, for futher comment.
