In April of last year, Vince Staples revealed that he was working on two new albums, a self-titled LP and another called Ramona Park Broke My Heart. The former dropped in July and was one of our favorite projects of the year. Today, Staples revealed that Ramona Park Broke My Heart is out this April and shared its lead single "Magic" featuring Mustard, the producing juggernaut and fellow West Coaster.
"Magic" rides a bittersweet yet blissful wave with Staples treasuring his success while cognisant of the struggles that came before. "Feelin' like I'm floating to the ceiling is it magic?" he raps in the beginning, with Mustard offering a dreamy take on his chart-friendly G-funk. In a statement obtained by Pitchfork, Staples said the song's title is "symbolic of home. And everyone has a home. Even though it’s very personal to me, everyone can relate to it. That’s why I thought it would work for this chapter.”
