Cate Le Bon has always been an introspective songwriter. Her astute self-exploration is what allows each facet of her work — which she tends to handle with little assistance from start to finish — to feel so emphatically her own. On "Remembering Me," the Welsh multi-hyphenate takes her navel gazing to the next level, examining her urge to self-examine. In Le Bon's words, it's "a neurotic diary entry that questions notions of legacy and warped sentimentalism in the desperate need to self-mythologize.”
The new song is the third and final single preceding the release of her sixth studio LP, Pompeii, out February 4 on Mexican Summer. It comes with a simple, stylish video from Juliana and Nicola Giraffe, who also handled the visual treatment for November's "Moderation." Lead single "Running Away" accompanied the album's October announcement.
"Remembering Me" rests on a cool, self-assured groove, and Le Bon's vocals are as languid and gorgeous as ever. Lyrically, though, she's laser-focused on a picturesque portrayal of her legacy: "In the remake of my life / I moved in straight lines / My hair was beautiful / My eyes were slow," she begins. But later, in the chorus, she worries about what won't be included in such a glossy final portrait: "Upset and out of touch, / Good grief you missed so much."
In the Giraffe-directed short, Le Bon switches between brightly colored robes against a solid background. Watch the video, and view her upcoming tour dates, below.
