Jenny Hval is back. Following a busy 2018 which saw the release of her debut novel Paradise Rot as well as her hypnotic The Long Sleep EP, the Norwegian experimentalist has announced that she's got a new album, The Practice of Love, in the works. Named after Valie Export’s 1985 film of the same title, the album will reckon with the ritualistic nature of love across its eight song track list. "I wanted to give the feeling of being apart from the world a mystical, but beautiful place, meaning pop songs," Hval wrote in a press release. "A place that also contains enough depth to bury oneself in.”

Most of the album will feature vocal contributions from Vivian Wang, Laura Jean Englert, and Félicia Atkinson. There are two solo tracks though, and today, Hval is debuting the first. It's called "Ashes to Ashes," a gorgeous track that blooms from initial incantation into a lush nineties trance. Stream the single below, and be on the lookout for The Practice Of Love in its entirety, out September 13 via Sacred Bones.
