Frank Ocean is suing his longtime collaborator Om'Mas Keith, according to a new report in TMZ. Ocean's suit reportedly claims that Keith is seeking songwriting credits for tracks on 2016's Blonde that he did not help write.
Ocean alleges that Keith has registered with royalty payment organization ASCAP for several songs on Blonde, including “Nights,“ “Pink + White,” and “Ivy.” However, the lawsuit contends that Keith was hired for a flat rate in 2014 to produce tracks on Blonde, and thus did not contribute to songwriting. Ocean is suing to block Keith from receiving the songwriting credits.
Besides his disputed contributions to Blonde, Om'Mas Keith also worked on Frank Ocean's projects Endless and Channel Orange, the latter of which won him the 2013 Grammy for Best Urban Contemporary Album.
A representative for Frank Ocean confirmed the lawsuit in an emailed statement to The FADER. "A complaint has been filed against Om’Mas Keith who has falsely stated to have written certain songs which appear on the album Blonde. These claims are untrue and this issue is being dealt with by litigators."
