This Abyss X song is the perfect soundtrack for contemplating the future
It’s like “running a sprint that becomes a marathon.”
Abyss X, the stage name of Cretan performance artist and producer Evangelia VS, is perfectly suited to her work — an imagined dreamscape in a future just distant enough to offer excitement, but close enough to be rooted in something universally human.
On a new release, "Lyrical Waxing," she betrays a slight shift in direction from some of her previous work. It still feels like staring at the sun, except from a warmer set of earthly coordinates this time around. The song features blooming, textured instrumentation and carefully layered vocals; so does its accompanying visual.
"'Lyrical Waxing' is about seeking self-acceptance and the constant battles with inner demons, desires, morals," Abyss X wrote in an email. "It's about mental survival. Like running a sprint that becomes a marathon."
The song is taken from her forthcoming Pleasures of the Bull project, out February 23 on Danse Noire.
