Here’s 22 Green Day covers you didn’t know you needed
The proceeds from this sick Earth Day compilation go to a Puerto Rico relief fund.
Pinegrove frontman Evan Stephans Hall and former Pinegrove member Nick Levine wrangled 22 artists for 22 covers of Green Day's best tracks. Favorites include Lomelda's wiggly, pared-down "Good Riddance," Ratboys's candy-sweet take on "Pulling Teeth," Evan's bluegrass-tinged "Burnout," Blue Ranger's weepy folk interpretation of "Macy's Day Parade," and Cameron Boucher's murmuring "Whatsername," off the divisive American Idiot.
The compilation was released October 1 in honor of Earth Day, which is also the day September ends, and all the pay-what-you-wish proceeds will go to the Hurricane Maria Community Relief and Recovery Fund, for the rebuilding of Puerto Rico. "Climate change is real and it's coming for all of us, but it will continue to disproportionately affect economically oppressed groups, especially communities of color," Nick and Evan explained in their note about the tribute project. "Environmental activism is a social justice issue. Consider what you can do to help."
