Even on an overcast day, NAPPYNAPPA’s energy is radiant. In the clip for “Do My Dance” — the first from his just-released New Balance EP — the D.C. artist wakes up in a field, takes a swig of beer, and brings the viewer along for a regular day’s shenanigans. Scenes beautifully skip back and forth between NAPPA gleefully rolling around and dancing outdoors, and giddily riding around in the backseat of a car with a friend, drinking and sharing his ambitions.
“‘Do My Dance’ is the most honest and truest me in this realm,” NAPPYNAPPA told The FADER over email, “as many [of my songs] do, it puts you in my head.” Beaming and gold tooth-glistening, NAPPA recounts that he’s always been destined to change the world, encouraged by life’s roadblocks: “My mental ascension begun when I was young,” he raps, “it was due to what I came from/ momma was gone/ pops addicted to the heroine/ so I made somethin' outta nothin’.”
