If there's one thing that OG Ron C and his Chopstars crew do best, it's their ability to give an album new life. Through expert chopping and screwing, The Chopstars has revitalized the year's best albums into hazy and lethargic masterpieces, putting their touch on Rihanna's ANTI, Kanye West's The Life of Pablo, and Chance the Rapper's Coloring Book.
On Friday, DJ Slim K unveiled the newest Chopstars project: a #ChoppedNotSlopped version of Frank Ocean's Blonde. Aptly named Purpl(e), the mixtape takes the already-moody Blonde and slows it down, returning Frank's pitched-up vocals on "Nights" and "Nikes" to a lower register. The result is ultimately soothing, as snare hits lazily slap and Frank's deep and buttery voice takes you to a dreamy and dark dimension. We're hoping the underrated Endless gets the chop next.
