Dev Hynes Will Debut A New Film At The Inaugural BOOM Festival This September
Organizers include Discwoman, Papi Juice, KUNQ, FlucT’s Monica Mirabile, and more.
BOOM, which stands for Bushwick Organizers + Owners Movement, is a new — and free — community arts series set to take over the Brooklyn neighborhood from September 29 to October 2. It will highlight New York artists through a variety of live music sets and art performances and installations.
On the music side, the four-day series will include BOOM RAVE, a 12-hour event featuring Kim Ann Foxman, Octo Octa, and Suzi Analogue, among others, and a two-stage label collective showcase that will include Brooklyn collectives Discwoman, KUNQ, Fake Accent, Jack Dept, Sweat Equity, No-Tech and Tribes NY.
BOOM will also feature events from Bushwig Brunch, a celebration of drag and queer performance, as well as PAPI JUICE, the Brooklyn-based party that celebrates queer people of color. Artists set to perform include Leonce, Dj Haram, Joey LaBeija and RIOBAMBA.
There'll also be a feast for the eyes and mind from a selection of visual and performance artists. Mohammed Fayaz of PAPI JUICE will be one of the artists debuting installations along with Grace Miceli, Nitemind, and Shawna X. And to top it all off, FlucT's Monica Mirabile has curated a video and performance screening called Falling In, which will include the debut of a new film by Dev Hynes.
The series is free with an RSVP and will take place at various locations around Brooklyn. See the listings details on the flyer below. For more details or to RSVP, head to BOOM's website.
