Beats 1 has tweeted a new clip of Chance The Rapper being interviewed by Zane Lowe. The full discussion will drop on May 24 at 10AM PST, but above you can watch the artist discuss how much he values his autonomy from record labels.
"I don't agree with the way labels are set up," he says. "I don't agree that anybody should sign 360 deals or sign away their publishing or take most of the infrastructure that's included with a formal deal."
Diplomacy is also important, as Chance discovered. "I've learned not to be like fuck this company and fuck that company even though a lot of those people tried to make it really hard for me to release my project."
Whatever Chance's plan is, it's working. Everyone loves his incredible new project Coloring Book, which debuted at number 8 on Billboard 200 based on the Apple Music-exclusive streams alone.
Update: Apple Music has shared additional audio clips of the interview via Pitchfork, with discussion turning from how Chicago factors into Chance's music to recording Coloring Book with Kanye West. Listen below.
