Sam Hunt's "Break Up In A Small Town" still sounds ahead of its time: a mainstream Nashville record featuring Hunt's recitative, speak-sing delivery and a hook that splits the difference between stadium rock and Vegas-friendly EDM. Traditional country touchstones are also cleverly scattered through the track. Pedal steel keens in the background during the opening monologue, and the wordplay is straight out of Music City: I should've known all along, you gotta move or move on.
The singer released the clip for "Break Up" today, and it's full of drama: a bearded Hunt broods in the mirror and races through the streets in a vain attempt to avoid his ex.
