NYC-based singer Tei Shi has linked with Atlanta rapper Rome Fortune on a new version of Shi's track “Go Slow” from her latest EP, Verde. The duo's collaboration has an edge not apparent in the original, with Fortune's verses addressing Shi's pleas for a lover to go slow. When she sings Go slow/ I wanna hear the floor boards squeak/ And I go slow/ I wanna fill the space between, he answers, I said slow slow slow/ What does that mean tho/ I mean, I seem to know but does that apply to me tho. Set against Shi’s seductive tone, Fortune’s bars are abrasive and his delivery aggressive—but that contrast works.
"I've been a fan of Tei Shi for a while now, so finally being able to work with her and have a product out is super exciting for me,” Rome Fortune explained in an email to the FADER. Tei Shi returned the compliment: "I'm a big fan of Rome and was excited to have him on the track, he's dope," she told us. "This is one of the most fun songs for me and having him on it was a cool extension of where my head was at when I made it." Hit play below.
