July 16, 2015

Future stopped by Power 105‘s The Breakfast Club this morning to promote his new album, DS2. The conversation ranged from his new no-feature policy (except for Drake) to his feelings on Ciara‘s new boyfriend Russell Wilson pushing Future's son in a stroller. The MC also talked about collaborating with Beyoncé and announced his plan to release another album before the end of 2015. Watch the interview above, and read the highlights below.

On features: “You gotta deal with so many egos and lawyers and such and such managers—you deal with 10 other people… I didn’t want to go through that again. I just wanted it to be all about me.”

On Pluto: “I wasn’t disappointed in Pluto, but I knew I could’ve made it a different way. Right now I’m not taking no advice. I did take advice before… You probably just want to do it your own way so you can feel comfortable and wake up and feel good about it at the end of the day.”

On his past issues with Drake: “We resolved the issue, we way past that. Back on the road, back doing music, shooting videos, OVO Fest on the way.”

On working with Drake on “Where Ya At:” “I wasn’t planning on having any features. [Drake] called the day I was about to turn the album in. I was like, ‘I gotta turn the album in in the morning.’ He was like, ‘Dirty Sprite 2? That’s legend, I loved Dirty Sprite, I wanna be a part of this.’ I was like, ‘man, dope, do the verse tonight, I’m gonna send the song over.’ He was like, ‘done.’”

On young rappers like Young Thug and Fetty Wap: “I don’t feel like they took my sound. I probably inspired it.”

On Ciara: “I ain’t thinking about her, I swear. I want her to be totally happy. People think I’m bitter cause she moved on. I’m good! I’m taking care of me. I don’t need him—she need him.”

On Russell Wilson: “Of course I wouldn’t want somebody pushing my son. That’s the number one rule. If I was a kid, and my mama had a dude pushing me, I would’ve jumped out the stroller and slapped the shit out of him. You never do that in our community. You don’t ever bring a man around your son. How you know this dude for a few months and you bring him around your kid? Who does that? Nobody does that.”

He doesn’t blame Wilson though: “[Ciara] probably set him up. You got nannies, you got assistants around you, anybody could’ve pushed that stroller. You letting them catch that photo. I’m not for the publicity stunts. Leave my son out of all the publicity stunts. Leave him out of your relationship because we don’t need your relationship for anything. I can take care of him on my own. Without any help. I don’t need no help taking care of my son.”

On his relationship with Mike Will Made It: “I’d die for Mike Will. That’s my brother, forever forever. He’s not on the album, but we have something planned. Me and Mike Will great friends… I told him we built something great. We gotta continue to build on that.”

On working with Beyonce: “I was at [Jay Z’s] crib, I was actually working with [Beyonce]. Me and him had a dope conversation, we had a sitdown and he was like man, I love what you’re doing. Keep doing what you’re doing. Jay is a great dude…I don’t know if [Beyonce] got a new album coming out, but as an artist I know you want to continue to be a creative and make songs.”

On drug consumption: “[It’s] too much. I need to stop. Now. For my sons that’s listening, I’m about to stop.”

On Meek Mill: "I do listen to Meek, and I haven’t bought any other album besides his album. I got a lot of respect for Meek. Me and him, we 1000. It’s rare you get an artist in the game who come through for you like you come through for them."

On his next album: “I’ve been recording every single day. I wanna drop another album this year. My plan is to drop another album.”

On praying after sex: “We not gonna speak on it.”
