It’s Too Soon To Tell If Troy Ave’s Album Is A Flop
The Major Without A Deal sales numbers are probably not as sad as they seem.
What you might have caught wind of on Twitter last night is true: the first week sales numbers for Troy Ave's Major Without a Deal were low. Like, really low—SoundScan shows that about 4,000 copies were moved in total, and that only thirty of those were physical sales, despite Troy's claim that hard copies were "SELLING THE FUK OUT IN BEST BUY."
But this is not exactly the abysmal showing that it appears to be. As Billboard points, these low numbers are most likely the result of a short sales week: while the album was released digitally last Friday, it was only released in stores on Tuesday, meaning those 30 CDs shouldn't have even been on shelves yet. In other words, it's too soon to tell if Major Without A Deal is actually a flop.
