It's been more than rewarding to hear a swell of young voices try on the riffs and range that defined the R&B of their toddler years: from SZA and Willow obsessing over Erykah Badu to Tyler, the Creator snagging Boyz II Men's Wanya Morris for Cherry Bomb background vox. On "All My Luv," KeithCharles Spacebar pulls a performance out of Awful's lady-in-residence Abra that could've fit snug on your favorite '98 blend tape: rolling harmonies give way to a diabolical laugh, and by the time the kicks drop, you're split between the bedroom and the bar. Imagine Fabolous and Li'l Mo as thrifty millennial ATL-iens making trunk music just for their friends: She just want something she can have, I just want something I could hold, Keith pontificates, and we get a feeling they meet in the middle. KCSB's We're All A Little Bit Trifling is on iTunes now via Awful Records, read up on Abra via the latest edition of How I Live.
