This week, a Londoner found himself in the eye of a viral storm after his picture was posted to 4Chan. The original post showed the man dancing, with a caption that said he "stopped when he saw us laughing." Writer Cassandra Fairbanks then started a campaign to identify the man, who quickly became known as Dancing Man, but whose real name, it turns out, is Sean. Together with 2000 other women, Fairbanks launched a crowdfunding page to arrange a party in LA for Sean, and for the principle of being able to dance freely in general. Currently, the page has raised almost $15,000 over its $20,000 goal.
This weekend, the campaign hit new heights when prestigious Dancing Man Pharrell took to Twitter to let Fairbanks know he wanted to come to the party. He's not the only musician interested, either; Moby has offered his DJ services for free, while Andrew WK tweeted: "This guy is totally a dance party master and I'm backing him all the way." If you're in LA, check here for updates on the event's time and date. Dance on, Dancing Man!
Hey @CassandraRules keep me posted about your dance party! @Dancingmanfound, never be ashamed of yourself. You are both truly #OTHER🙏
