Watch Pharrell hear his Daft Punk collaboration “Get Lucky” for the first time

For Daft Punk's 10th birthday of Random Access Memories, the former duo is sharing a video series called "Memory Tapes." The sixth episode features collaborator Pharrell Williams, who was on "Get Lucky" and "Lose Yourself to Dance."

"It was very magical," Pharrell said, speaking about working with Daft Punk. "Because we all see music the same way. We see music as this gift that was given to us to connect with people and set people free and liberate people. So when you meet people who really understand that, then you guys connect. That becomes your mission and that's all you do."

Williams called the robotic group his "spirit animals," and went into the studio thinking he was writing for another artist. Inspired by Michael Jackson, he wrote "Get Lucky" with Daft Punk and was pushed to perfect the song.

"I can't wait to see who sings it and what it sounds like," he said after writing the song with the group. A year later, he was brought into the studio to hear the finished song for the first time. "I'm so honored and humbled to be a part of that," Pharrell said once he heard his own vocals on the track. "I'm always critical of my own vocals and that felt great to me."

"Get Lucky" topped the charts and won Record of the Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at the 56th Annual Grammy Awards. Watch the whole episode below.
