Hieroglyphic Being Gets Deliriously Ascendant on New Track “Star Time”
It’s from his forthcoming single, “The Forth Dimension of a Nubian Mystic.”
Walk (or click) into a specialized record store and you’ll see noise-inflected dance music everywhere, on labels like L.I.E.S., Downwards, Trilogy Tapes and Opal Tapes. One artist that doesn’t get talked about nearly enough in that conversation, though, yet is seriously responsible for prefiguring the blueprint for its sound, having worked in it for years, is Hieroglyphic Being. In all fairness, that’s probably because his music doesn’t assimilate itself easily to conversation, as its brilliant weirdness can have a stop-and-stare, stupefying effect. More inflected by free jazz sonic plaintiveness and ascension than EBM’s direct purposefulness, Hieroglyphic Being kind of forces you to meet him at his level or just not engage. Fortunately, whatever he does is always worth the careful listening, and this delirious cut, titled “Star Time,” is no exception. Take a listen below and be on the lookout for the forthcoming single it finds its home on, The Fourth Dimension of a Nubian Mystic, out October 20th on vinyl and the 27th digitally on Technicolour.
