Hieroglyphic Being & J.I.T.U. Ahn-Sahm-Buhl Share “F**k The Ghetto/Think About Outer Space” Video
“A hopeful and simple escape from the inertiatic forces of urban development.”
The clip for “F**k The Ghetto / Think About Outer Space” was put together by the New York City-based studio Georgia. The video moves through the City in fits and starts, while the track combines a dance pulse—that increases in intensity as the song progresses—with lyrics from the poet Rafael Sanchez: Finally you you say “yo, Fuck the ghetto”/ Think about outer space, become outer space/ Fuck lottery tickets, plexiglass candy.
The directors also issued a detailed statement about their intentions with the video. “We sought to build a visual union between the mind and the environment oscillating between the two to create a new space and retreat from the everyday.” They continued, “We placed a simple narrative in front of viewers that can be focused upon, then lost and returned to, providing a hopeful and simple escape from the inertiatic forces of urban development, heartless gridding, and forced positioning… we hope the piece will extend the notion of outer space to the space immediately outside of self, including the sidewalk.”
Watch above. If you're in New York city, there's a free album release event for Hieroglyphic Being & J.I.T.U. Ahn-Sahm-Buhl tonight. Check out the flyer below.
