Watch Matt Kivel’s Bizzaro Stop-Motion “End of Adventure” Video
It was directed by a Shakespeare character come to life.
LA singer-songwriter Matt Kivel met Ben Elie, the guy who directed his "End of Adventure" video, at a bar in San Francisco. "He was really funny," writes Kivel, who has played in Gap Dream and Princeton, in an e-mail. "He was like Puck from A Midsummer Night's Dream, except in REAL LIFE." As the story goes, he went on to asked Elie if he wanted to direct a clip for one of his songs. Even though the dude had never made a music video before, Kivel "believed in him anyway". The pleasantly amateur-ish product of this interaction, embedded above, follows a music enthusiast who falls under the spell of Kivel's bright, back-porch guitar rock and —utilizing Kivel's identical twin brother here—somehow actually becomes him. It's fittingly lighthearted, especially considering the spontaneity of its inception. Matt Kivel's Days of Being Wild is out now on Woodsist.
