London duo Simian Mobile Disco thrive in the live moment—the clue's in the name—and back in April they proved it once again by lugging their modular synths out to the Californian desert to jam for three days under the sun and stars. The resulting material has metamorphosed into upcoming new album, Whorl, their fourth since their debut in 2007, and today they share the video to the first single, "Tangents." Created by Hans Lo & Jack Featherstone using a bespoke A/V system, the video was made by sending stock footage through an oscilloscope that reduced the complex images to vibrating dashes, dots and color washes. That's actually a fitting description of the music, too—semaphore-like signals designed to tune into something primal deep inside. It's a trip, alright. Anti- Records will release Whorl on September 9th.
