New York's Niia studied jazz at the Berklee School of Music, and for her biggest track to date—and the first we've hear of her debut LP—she has scored production from Rhye’s Robin Hannibal. With Hannibal at the helm, "Made for You" is expectedly sensual and slow, but also anxious and grim, with too-delicate piano and lightly corroded drums escorting her well-trained voice past leather couches and into the dark. Tony Kaye, of American History X fame, directed the music video, which flips the song's I was made for you chorus on its head, contrasting real women with synthetic sex dolls and climaxing with the death, at Niia's hands, of a scummy lover. Via email, Kaye said, "My whole time with Niia was a can-opener to my consciousness… [The video's] story was eclectic, enigmatic and surreal, just like Niia herself." The track is out now on iTunes.
