With an album version, a music video and an acoustic vision already floating around, Los Angeles duo Rhye is certainly getting a lot of mileage out of "The Fall," the centerpiece and title track of the band's new EP on Innovative Leisure/Seven Four. Fortunately, the track deserves every bit of the attention it's been getting because it's one of the most beautiful heartbreak songs we've heard all year, somehow all the more gut-wrenching for its jazzy smoothness. In yet another iteration, Sheffield DJ/producer Maurice Fulton ratchets up the funk undertones about 300%, adding in a no-nonsense, dexterity-testing bass-line and a drum beat that struts its way through a series of handclaps and luxurious fills.
