Watch Austin Lynch’s Short Film Breathing Cave

June 13, 2012

Austin Lynch, son of David Lynch and a director in his own right, follows members of the Richmond Area Speleological Society underground in his meditative new short film, Breathing Cave. The world there is alien, but still simple, making Breathing something like an everyman's Cave of Forgotten Dreams, where lower-stakes beauty seems accessible to anyone with a backpack and a free weekend—or five minutes and an internet connection. The soundtrack was composed live by Noah Wall, primarily by looping the sound of crystal glasses. (Recently, Wall released a "digital box set" of his old work as Jukeboxer, compiling his early-2000s albums on Absolutely Kosher.) For more, check out Lynch's amazing, 121-episode Interview Project, produced by his dad, and his 2005 short film, Burning Man, also scored by Wall.
