Ceremony, “Hysteria” MP3

January 06, 2012

Since we last spoke with Ross Farrar of California punks Ceremony, the band has left hardcore label Bridge 9 and signed to the more family friendly Matador. On March 6th, they'll be releasing their debut for the label, Zoo. "Hysteria" is the first single from the album, and it continues to dial back the blunt force aggression they've been known for into a more smoldering disquietude. Their last record for Bridge 9, Rohnert Park was a stepping stone into more melancholy territory, and "Hysteria" cashes in on that promise with bullhorn vocals and a mid-pace guitar pounding. In a handwritten note on Matador's site, Farrar writes, "While writing Zoo, I tried to write about humans from a more welcoming perspective in that I didn't want to harp on the fact that we're killing ourselves and each other all the time, or fall in the habit of writing things that seemed too pessimistic—something punk and hardcore bands have exhausted many times over." Sounds like they're growing up.
