Joel Ford—Dan Lopatin's longtime partner in jamming and current partner in the production (Ford and Lopatin) and distribution (Software) of great electronic music—flies solo as Airbird, making computer funk songs with hippie vibes. They tend to sound like fantastic chapters of Sci-Fi books: roving, complex, crystal-hued and triumphant. His latest track, "We Used To," starts off heavy and then jumps skyward, gliding easily towards a featherlight finish. Hear Airbird's full-bodied "City vs. Mountains" collide with Mike Q's vicious "Ha Dub" on the FADER #77 podcast, and expect an Airbird album from Software later this year.
