Joe Blow, the first new artist to release material on Jacka’s The Artist Records label, holds his own on "Couldn't Be a Better Player," the only collaboration (as far as I'm aware) between DJ Fresh and The Jacka, two of the Bay's most prolific stars. Its thunderous, bass-heavy and Jam & Lewis-inspired beat keeps teasing release, so it feels like the chorus of the S.O.S. Band's "Just Be Good To Me" will drop at any moment. There is also a slurred verse from skilled syrup addict Lil Rue, while Jacka shifts from a familiar old school flow into a rare double-time familiar to fans of the rapper's "Heavy Rain." Blow's newest record, International Blow, is out now.
