The soulfully bizarro child-like voice of Claire Boucher, aka Grimes, gets uber-diffused by Laurel Halo—to the point of being almost non-existent. Boucher's ranging, high-pitched crescendos on "Heartbeats" (off of Geidi Primes) are buried under layers and layers, like she's hiding under the covers, playing hookie from the song. Grimes' new split 12-inch with D'eon, Darkbloom, is out now on Hippos in Tanks and Arbutus.
