Grimes sues Elon Musk over parental rights of three children

Grimes has sued her former partner Elon Music over parental rights to their three children, the San Francisco Standard reports. In court filings seen by the publication, the singer born Claire Boucher is seeking "a petition to establish parental relationship.” This filing, according to family attorney Deborah Dubroff, will allow Grimes to ask for custody rights or financial support, but as of press time no filings have been made.

After first emerging as a couple in 2018, Grimes and Elon Musk went on to have three children X Æ A-Xii, Exa Dark Sideræl, and Tau Techno Mechanicus Musk, over the course of four years. In 2019, Musk said he and Grimes were "semi-separated."

A since-deleted September post from Grimes hinted at tensions between her and Musk. In response to a picture of Shivon Zilis, mother of two of Musk's 10 children, Grimes wrote, "Tell Shivon to unblock me and tell Elon to let me see my son or plz respond to my lawyer. I have never even been allowed to see a photo of these children until this moment, despite the situation utterly ripping my family apart.”

She later clarified that she did not have an issue with Zillis. “I spoke with Shivon at length finally, which was long overdue. This wasn’t her fault, plz don't be angry at her... Women are so often pitted against each other. Speaking with Shivon, it’s very evident she’s an amazing human and we both just want what's best for our kids.”

In an excerpt from Watler Isaacson's Musk biography, Grimes said that Musk took photos of her while she was giving birth to their son X Æ A-Xii and send it to friends and family. “He was just clueless about why I’d be upset,” Grimes said.
