Tamaryn is making straightforward shoegaze—which is actually a rarity in 2010. For all the bands floating around that are obsessed with layered guitar effects and Loveless, no one is really taking the blueprint and nestling inside it the way Tamaryn has. You wouldn't be wrong to say that she draws a lot of inspiration from the Cocteau Twins' ethereal power. Her voice emerging strong and solid from amid guitar swirl. But it's done so well that sometimes it's really all you want to listen to. Here's a video for "Dawning" from Tamaryn's debut LP The Waves directed by Christin Turner. (via GvsB)
