Video: The Rapture Played the Prada Store

September 14, 2009

For last week's Anna Wintour fashion industry booster shot, Fashion's Night Out, stores stayed open late, had special sales, free drinks and maybe a DJ. The massive Prada store in New York's SoHo gave out jellybeans in paper envelopes on silver trays and brought The Rapture back from hiatus to perform in the store's futuristic skate ramp auditorium. The group—now minus Matt Safer but plus Harris Klahr, formerly of Q and Not U—looked crisp (it's unclear if Gabe Andruzzi knows to match his belt to his cowbell or if that is Prada's styling) and sounded very tight. They've clearly been practicing crazily, and soon have a few shows in Australia, so hopefully will soon return with full force. What was most exciting was that they looked very excited.

Yesterday was Jets prodigy quarterback Mark Sanchez's first game, and, in the fourth quarter, when he knew he had the game sewed up, he started to flail his arms around and run like crazy like a baby bird discovering flight. It made us think about The Rapture playing "House of Jealous Lovers." They're not rookies—this is a now classic song which is a classic take on a classic sound—but both Sanchez's celebration and Rapture's were similar. There are plenty of opportunities for success ahead, based very solidly in the skill and hard work in their pasts.
