Homixide Gang can be as big as Playboi Carti

Meet the Atlanta duo (Beno! and Meechie) who are expanding the Opium-verse and leaving it all on the stage.

It makes a certain amount of cosmic sense that Homixide Gang based their video for "5G" off of Fight Club. The late-90s film captured the simmering rage of a society that was dying of boredom and sick of conformity. See one clip of a Homixide Gang show and you'll feel that spirit; their shows are spaces to convene, bask in the bass and mosh away the ennui.

Homixide Gang, the Atlanta rage rap duo comprised of rappers Beno! and Meechie, have become the kind of sonic alchemists who can immediately transform a crowd into a swirling mosh, a simple speaker into a blaring bass portal, a heavy metal guitar riff and an 808 into a sonic saber ready to pierce through your headphones.

The duo have been on the rise ever since they were signed to Playboi Carti's label, Opium. Alongside fellow members of the Opium-verse, Ken Carson and Destroy Lonely, Homixide Gang are creating a world that is both digitized and visceral.

All of that has come into focus on the massive Antagonist Tour, headlined by Playboi Carti and featuring Ken Carson, Destroy Lonely, Apollo Red, and the duo themselves as openers. It's clear their rise is unstoppable and will be very loud.

Describe the first show you ever went to.

Beno: My first concert ever was the King Vamp tour in 2021. Playboi Carti brought us out as a guest, I was scared as hell. It was at Barclays Center, so it was a lot of people.
Meechiie: The first show I went to was Future’s at the Amphitheater. I was like 15 years old thinking “Oh, this is what it’s all about.” We’re from the same hood so seeing him perform at clubs with my people to actually having his own show, it motivated me.

What was the last movie you watched, and give a short review.

Beno: I just watched Friday after Next on Tubi. It’s a classic and shit. Everyone knows Friday after Next. It was actually on Thanksgiving. That “tastes so good make ya wanna slap ya mama” quote is legendary.

Meechiie: I just rewatched GI Joe. It came out a few years ago. It’s the perfect movie. It had me wondering “what’s going to happen next” the whole time.

What’s a motto that you think everyone should live by?

Beno: Always be yourself. Being authentic opens more doors, especially in this industry. So don’t allow anyone to tell you any different.

Meechiie: You only live once.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

Beno: Aways be a student. You ain’t gotta know everything and it’s impossible to know everything so being willing to learn and keep growing.

Meechiie: Save your money because it’s going to save you.

What’s the worst advice you’ve ever received?

Beno: “You can’t do that.” Someone trying to tell me I can’t do something.

Meechiie: I’d say whenever people try to put a cap over something you’re working on. You’ll tell someone about your dreams, and they try to say, “I don’t see you doing that.”

What’s your favorite song to play live right now and why?

Beno: “5G” because it sounds like live band and it’s different. Like a KISS show, but it’s really some niggas from Eastside Atlanta.

Meechiie: “5G,” Homixide going crazy, “5unna,” R50.” The energy we get from the crowd, but also the energy the song brings to us too…they all just light you up.

Describe the best show you’ve played this year so far.

Beno: Austin, TX Antagonist tour killed it. They showed up.
Meechiie: I have to give it to Las Vegas, Arizona, and New Jersey.

What’s the best thing you’ve bought yourself recently and why?

Beno: Baby clothes for my child. She has a whole closet full already and she doesn’t get here for another month. I’m preparing to spoil the fuck out of her.

Meechiie: My momma a house.

What was the last creative idea you had that made you ask, ‘Can we do that’?

Beno: Honestly, being as big as Playboi Carti. Just seeing him perform every day on this tour, getting to see the creativeness, hard work, and work ethic put into the show kept me inspired.

Forward us the last meme that made you laugh.
