HUNTR/X’s “Golden,” taken from the soundtrack to the Netflix movie KPop Demon Hunters, is No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for a third week in a row. Billboard notes that this takes HUNTR/X past Destiny's Child as the first all-woman collective of three or more members to spend more than two weeks at the top of the chart. Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams have held the record since 2001 when their song “Bootylicious” spent two weeks in the No.1 position.
The huge success of KPop Demon Hunters has propelled a number of the fictional artists featured in the animated film into the Hot 100. HUNTR/X, which is made up of real life artists EJAE, Audrey Nuna and REI AMI in the roles of the film’s characters Rumi, Mira and Zoey, are currently joined by Saja Boys’ “Your Idol” and “Soda Pop” at Nos. 4 and 5, respectively.
The movie's soundtrack is the first to generate four simultaneous Hot 100 top 10s in the chart’s 67-year history. Another HUNTR/X song, “How It’s Done,” rounds out the list.
Last week KPop Demon Hunters officially became the most viewed movie of all time on Netflix.
Since its release on June 20 the movie, about a K-pop group who protect their fans from evil, has been viewed more than 236 million times. The movie was subsequently released in theaters as a sing-a-long release with speculation that a sequel is in the pipeline.
