Fans of The Bear have turned the relationship between Carmy (Jeremy Allen White) and Ayo Edebiri's Sydney into a modern day will-they-wont-they situation. Edebiri, however, is embracing the rom-com in a more direct manner with Prodigies, a new TV show set to debut on Apple TV+.
Prodigies comes from Will Sharpe, best known for appearing in season 2 of The White Lotus. He wrote the new show and will direct what is described as an “unusual take” on a classic romantic comedy based on a long-term relationship. A launch date for the show remains TBC.
The story follows Didi (Edebiri) and Ren (Sharpe), two ex-child prodigies who have been together since they were children and now find themselves in their early 30s and asking questions about both their relationship and whether or not they fulfilled their potential
“As individual hopes and needs feed into and conflict with their shared lives, the series challenges the fallacy at the heart of romantic storytelling — that the tale is over when the heroes get together,” the synopsis reads. “In life, surely, that is just the beginning?”
In addition to The White Lotus, Sharpe has also appeared in A Real Pain and directed the 2021 movie The Electrical Life of Louis Wain. Edebiri, meanwhile, will next be seen in director Luca Guadagnino's After The Hunt, in which she stars alongside Julia Roberts and Andrew Garfield
