billy woods has announced details of a new album plus a live tour. GOLLIWOG is set for release on May 9 via Backwoodz Studioz. The album will feature "Misery," which was produced by Kenny Segal and can be streamed below.
In a statement, woods laid out his reasons for naming his album after old fashioned children's dolls dolls that shared their look with racist minstrels. "When I was nine years old I wrote a story about an evil golliwog," woods said. "My mother read it and told me it was overly derivative and needed some work. Here we are."
GOLLIWOG is woods' first solo album since 2023's Maps, which was named The FADER's best album of that year. It features production and music from El-P, The Alchemist, Shabaka Hutchings, Kenny Segal, Conductor Williams, Preservation, and DJ Haram among others. Guest vocalists on the project include his Armand Hammer collaborator ELUCID plus Cavalier, Bruiser Wolf, Despot, al.divino, and singer-songwriter Yolanda Watson.
In addition to the new album, woods will be on tour across North America and the U.K., starting next month. Scroll down to see his full schedule.
