Late last year in a Vogue Australia cover story, Solange vowed that 2025 would be the year where she dedicates "myself to [making music] full time." At least three weeks into January she's been keeping that promise: The singer shared photos of her posted up in the studio with none other than Pi'erre Bourne, sparking fans to think that new music could actually be on the way.

It's a surprising partnership, fans have already noted; the two haven't released music together before. But their collaboration certainly isn't unwelcome.

It's been a long minute since Solange has dropped anything new; her last album was 2019's What I Get Home, her afro-futurist homage to Houston. But that doesn't mean the singer hasn't been tinkering; in the last few years, she composed a score for the New York City ballet, becoming the second-ever Black woman to do so. She's also been experimenting with the tuba.

In a 2024 interview with Harper's Bazaar, she said that she "loves" the instrument and has been writing music for it. "It sounds like what the gut feels like to me,” Solange said. “There’s a way that it takes up space that you can’t deny, and it also just feels very Black to me.”

No word yet if she brought the tuba into the studio with Pi'erre Bourne, but if she did, we've no doubt that whatever she played got chopped up into a banger.
