Multiple producers claim they have not been paid for work on Kanye West’s Vultures
10 producers that worked on Ye’s last two projects are taking legal action.
Kanye West, a.k.a. Ye, has failed to pay 10 producers who worked on his latest albums, Vultures 1 and Vultures 2, Billboard reports. Attorneys working for the producers have joined forces in an effort to get the money they say their clients are owed.
Per the Billboard report, the unnamed producers that worked on Vultures 1 have been unable to secure signed agreements for their work. The album, released in February, was made in collaboration with Ty Dolla $ign and features "Carnival," named this week as one of Spotify's most streamed songs of 2024. Billboard reports several producers that contributed to Vultures 2, which followed in August, have found themselves in the same position.
“We have clients who’ve produced music on the Vultures album(s) and have still not been paid for their services even though both albums have been released,” music attorney Bob Celestin told the publication. “Presently, we have no idea when payment will be made, which is so unfortunate and unfair. You would think West would be more sensitive to this issue because he is a producer.”
The lawyer added that Ye has “cycled through at least two attorneys to help with clearances and is now relying on a third,” while they chase the money.
Though no names are mentioned in the Billboard report, among the many producers credited on Vultures 1 and 2 are names includingTimbaland, Swizz Beatz, Pi'erre Bourne, James Blake, KAYTRANADA, 88-Keys, ATL Jacob, JPEGMafia, DJ Mustard, and London on da Track.
