ScHoolboy Q shares two new songs “Blueslides” and “Back in Love”
The tracks appear ahead of the rapper’s forthcoming album, Blue Lips.
Last week, ScHoolboy Q officially announced his next album, Blue Lips with a video trailer, tracklist, and possible release date (March 1). Today he’s back with two songs: “Blueslides” and “Back in Love” featuring Devin Malik (only “Blueslides” is listed on the tracklist for Blue Lips).
“Blueslides” serves as an open letter to fans addressing Q’s extended absence from rap: over a somber and jazzy beat, Q raps about how different struggles — including losing a friend to drugs and getting taken advantage of by people who he trusted — led to a struggle with depression: “Been a prisoner in my own house, I don’t know if they noticed / I done broke down so many times, next time it gon’ catch me.”
By contrast, “Back In Love” serves to prove that he hasn’t lost a step, with Q adopting a dispassionate monotone as he raps about his elevated lifestyle and lowly competition. Its music video features a lot of adorable home video footage of Q as a child; see that and the visuals for “Blueslides” below.
