The 2024 Academy Awards nominations for Best Original Score and Best Original Song have been announced. The 96th Academy Awards ceremony will take place on March 10 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.
Billie Eilish has earned her second Academy Award nomination, with "What Was I Made For" from Barbie up for Best Original Song. She is joined by Ryan Gosling for his contribution to the Barbie soundtrack, "I'm Just Ken." Also nominated are Diane Warren and Becky G for "The Fire Inside" (Flamin' Hot), Jon Batiste's "It Never Went Away" (American Symphony), and "Wahzhazhe (A Song for My People" by Osage Tribal Singers (Killers of the Flower Moon).
Oscar rules dictate that only two songs from the same movie can be nominated, meaning Dua Lipa's Barbie song "Dance The Night" missed out. Eilish won her first Oscar in 2022 for her song "No Time to Die" from the James Bond film of the same name.
In Best Original Score, meanwhile, the nominees include American Fiction, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Killers of the Flower Moon, Oppenheimer, and Poor Things.
Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer is the Oscars frontrunner, shortlisted in a total of 13 categories, including best film, director, and adapted screenplay. Actors Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr and Emily Blunt are also in shortlisted for awards.
